Searching for a New Secretary
The current Club Secretary, Graham Arthur, will be retiring at the forthcoming AGM and the club needs to find a replacement. This is an important post within the club which cannot operate without a Secretary
The main tasks the Secretary is responsible for are:-
• maintenance of the membership list, sending out membership renewals and registering new members.
• setting up the bimonthly Committee meetings and recording actions
• payment of regular expenses
The new secretary would have the support and assistance of the outgoing secretary for as long as they required it and have the computer records which have sample letters and other documents that cover nearly all circumstances so there would be no need to start systems, procedures and letters from scratch.
It is interesting work that is necessary to keep the club functioning.
If you are interested and think you might like to give it a try please contact Graham to find out more about what is involved.

Classic McQueen
Another winter morning and an excellent turn out for the McQueen classic shoot. I was too busy to count the members but it is reported that we had around 24 shooters turn up and most shot the course of fire.
The electronic targets worked for the practice once they warmed up (like the rest of us) and allowed shooters to get a zero before moving to the impossibly small Huns head figure 14 targets on the castle.
The McQueen sounds relatively easy, 10 exposures and a shot at each, but it isn't. You need a good zero, top ammunition and sound coordination and control. Three seconds is enough time but you have one to see the exposure, one to aim and one to shoot. You need to control your round count and make sure if you have less than 10 in the mag that you know when to reload. The target is small, difficult to see and fleeting.
This outing was for Classic rifles and was shot at 200 yards. The results show some disappointing scores. Yours truly worked hard to get a 0 with all the shots going low. The wartime 3 to 4 power scopes are hard to use on classic rifles and a good score is by no means guaranteed with a modern scope with high magnification.
So more work is needed on the hand loads and the practice for next time. In the modern class Andy Blanchett showed the way so he will be one to watch at the 300 yard modern comp later in the year.
Its a challenging and interesting shoot so come along to the next one and have a go.
Thanks to all who helped run the range and for the members who came along and had a go.
The next shoot is a 300 yard practice so see you then.
As ever please remember to shut the gates behind you as the sheep are mowing the grass.

| A varied collection of rifles appeared on the firing point some taking the opportunity to establish a zero | Standing about in the cold does not rate highly on Boar Hill pleasures but the sun shone (back down the range) and at least it didn't rain! |
